Windows 2000 to Windows XP Upgrade
Issues |
| Although
Microsoft support a direct upgrade to Windows
XP from Windows 2000 or NT 4.0, the process has
a few bugs of its own (but not as many as an upgrade
from Win9x) If you can, try to install Windows
XP as a fresh install instead of an upgrade. But
if you really need to retain all of your application
settings, here's what to look out for in the upgrade
process. |

Windows Upgrade Advisor
Quits Abruptly During System Compatibility Check
and No Report Appears
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: 305883 - While
you are upgrading your computer from Microsoft
Windows NT Workstation 4.0 to Windows XP Professional,
when you click Check System Compatibility ,
the Windows Upgrade Advisor may quit abruptly.
You do not receive any report about system compatibility,
and you also do not receive any notification that
Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5 is required, even
if no service packs are currently installed.
You Receive a "Windows
Setup Cannot Continue Without Service Pack 5
or Greater Installed" While Upgrading to Windows
XP
Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: 311775 - While
you are upgrading from Microsoft Windows NT
4.0 Workstation to Windows XP Professional,
