File and Folder Compression in Windows 2000

Compressing files and folders in Windows 2000 is a easy process - simply click on the file or folder, choose Properties from the menu, click the Advance Tab and check the box marked "Compress contents to save disk space". Compression may slow performance a bit, and there are a few pitfalls when using compression with offline folders, and encrypted data. You must also be aware of what happens to your compressed files when you move them between folders and hard drives.
